Even though Hong Kong has some of the strictest quarantine rules in the world, Nicole Kidman was given a pass as she is currently there to film a new movie for Amazon. Authorities in Hong Kong confirmed that the Oscar winner was granted a special exemption from the quarantine rules.
The actress is an executive producer on The Expats, an upcoming show about a group of privileged women living in Hong Kong.
Nicole Kidman Slammed For Special Treatment: Exempt From Having To Quarantine In Hong Kong
In a statement, the Hong Kong government said “the case in discussion has been granted permission to travel to Hong Kong with a quarantine exemption for the purpose of performing designated professional work.” It added that the move was “conducive to maintaining the necessary operation and development of Hong Kong’s economy.”
It was later confirmed that person is Nicole Kidman.
The Expats, directed by Lulu Wang and based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s book The Expatriates, centers on a group of wealthy women living in Hong Kong. Kidman is an executive producer on the show via her production company Blossom Films. Needless to say, Nicole’s exemption has sparked outrage among some on social media.
“Dear #HongKong friends and family, while you are locked into a hotel room for three weeks, how does it feel to know that if you are from Hollywood, you are exempt from the barbaric quarantine rules HK residents are subjected to?” one outraged Twitter user said.
