Netflix's 'Dracula' Series Releases Tomorrow - A Bloody Good Time

Tomorrow marks Netflix’s release of Dracula! The epic story comes to life in the new series starring Claes Bang as the legendary character. Not only do we have great faith in actor Claes Bang for his acting abilities, but the man has the look down! It is a rugged, throwback to the original Dracula films, and Bela Lugosi. You can’t help but notice the similarity when looking at the two, and perhaps this was Netflix’s plan, to begin with. A throwback to the original after so many interpretations of the legendary character through the decades.

According to a summary on IMDB, “He’s been around for centuries, but what happens when a worthy adversary bites back? In 1897 Transylvania, the blood-drinking Count draws his plans against Victorian London.”

    Netflix’s ‘Dracula’ – The Anticipation

Monster films of the early 1900s always drew my attention. Not only did they obviously have to rely on practical effects to portray these creatures, but the ability to still be terrifying almost 100 years later is amazing. The tone and editing of the older films are really what makes them stand out, and the fact they were so ahead of their time. The horror film as a genre wasn’t really known, and the Universal monster films set the stage for decades to come.

After many, and I mean many, missteps with these characters in the last few decades, a step back to the past may just be what we need. Now, we can take the effects of today, and mix them with the terrifying stories of then. A classic Dracula, suit and all, blood running down two streams under his lip and a cape may not sound scary now, after the special effects we’ve seen. What seems to be the haunting part is Claes Bang’s portrayal of him.

A back to basics is perfect, not only for us but for Netflix as well. They can be the saviors who not only brought us shows like Stranger Things and The Witcher but who also finally got Dracula “right”.

    ‘Dracula’ – The Trailer

The newest trailer was released on Netflix‘s YouTube page and gives us so much more than the teaser did. Not only do we see more of Claes Bang as Dracula, but more of the actual story!

From the prisoner, he keeps locked away in his castle, to the nuns who plan their defense from this horrible monster. Complete with cross and wooden stakes! This is a show that might just start off the New Year with a “Bang”. See what I did there! Check out the trailer for Dracula and be sure to catch it tomorrow, January 4!
