Netflix ‘Tiger King’ spoilers finds that episode 2 was a real eye opener about this world. And one of the looks inside of it was pretty frightening. We got to meet this one character called Mario Tabraue. This guy was an apparent drug dealer, along with his Father, Guillermo Tabraue. For around a decade or so they operated what was apparently a top dollar drug ring. People called him the poster child for Tony Montana, and he would even answer the phone “Tony’s drug store” and proceed to name off his illegal wares.
If that wasn’t enough, he was even involved in the murder of a federal agent in 1982! And the way he named off the victim and told exactly what happened to him was just bone-chilling. It was an ATF informant by the name of Larry Nash, he said that a couple of guys shot the guy and then panicked by dumping the body at Mario’s farm. There was no emotion in his voice, no regret, he mentioned the guy as if he’d just met him at a baseball game years before and said ‘hi’. This ‘panic’ included mutilating and cremating said body, and the he followed up by saying that he didn’t do “most of the stuff”… MOST?! He even detailed things… like taking a circular saw to the body, but he assured the camera that it was someone else who did it. Sure, because being able to recount that much about a murder and mutilation is always third-hand information… sure.
Netflix ‘Tiger King’ Spoilers: How is Mario Tabraue not still in jail?!
My question is, where are these supposed other ‘guys’ that were in on this hit with him? Are they still in jail? What were their names? I mean, I guess a prisoner can decline to be interviewed as much as anyone else but if I had been in jail since 1982 I would want to make sure the correct story came out about me. Also they were able to secure jailhouse interviews with Joe Exotic, so why not these guys? I guess the main focus in this documentary were the people who were in the business of exotic animals and not an almost 40 year old murder case but if they ever do a documentary on it I will be there.

Apparently, Mario owns a private animals park, but you cannot get in unless someone makes a call for you. A previous employee of Mario’s made the call for the netflix producer and got them in. I will admire one thing about Mario’s establishment, he said that he makes everything in his park ‘stupid proof’ because people are stupid, and also because he probably does not want to wind up in prison again. His first stint in prison, according to Mario ‘cost’ him 12 years of his life. He got life plus a 109 year sentence and I am not exactly sure how, but he won an appeal 12 years later. Perhaps it was a different judge, I’m not sure.
Another little something that made me suspicious is that Joe Exotic himself really respects Mario. He said of Mario that animals don’t judge you as long as you’ve got a good heart, and then he followed it up with “Everybody’s got a past.” and this funny little nose-twitch and blink, it makes me wonder if he knows a little bit more than he’s telling about Mario, and if he just doesn’t want to enrage him. After all, didn’t John McCain give similar blinks when he was on-camera being asked about being tortured by the Vietnamese? I know I would think twice about enraging a guy that made an ATF agent disappear in the most brutal way possible. Not that Joe is innocent in any way himself, but if I were a law enforcement agent, I’d be wondering what Joe could tell me about Mario.
Honestly though, I don’t think Mario started out as a bad guy. In fact he told a story about getting his first pets that was actually kind of adorable. He said that growing up his Mother was very anti-pet, so when he grew up and got out of her house, the first thing he did was get three great danes. He progressed onto buying his first big cat which was a cougar (which, apparently you could do legally during that period of time.) and then slowly progressed onto other, larger exotic animals. I mean, cute story to be honest… but then he said that he sold drugs to finance his animal addiction.
Since tigers and the like are so expensive to feed, you just have to wonder where Mario gets the means to do that, being a convicted felon means that it’s pretty hard to find work. But I suppose he has a certain skillset that could be applied to a myriad of situations. Could Joe Exotic’s funny little blink there at the end mean anything? You decide. Stay tuned!!!
