Following the reboot of She-Ra with the animated She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, streaming giant, Netflix has announced that they will be rebooting He-man.
Netflix partnered with DreamWorks Animation to create She-Ra, and this time around, they are partnering with Mattel Television to gives us a CG Animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and it is coming with new story lines and character takes.
Netflix and Mattel Team Up To Reboot He-man and the Master of the Universe
Now, don’t confuse this with Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which is also a Kevin Smith’s animated series that Netflix is also cooking for us. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is being produced by Mattel Television with Adam Bonnett, Rob David, and Christopher Keenan, serving as executive producers. The much anticipated series was also developed for TV by Rob David.
Other producers on this new series are Susan Corbin and Emmy-winning producer and designer Jeff Matsuda. The story editors is Bryan Q Miller and House of Cool and CGCG will provide animation services. According to the Senior Vice President of Content Distribution and Business Development at Mattel, Fred Soulie, the new series will be a contemporary one and at the same time satisfy people who like the sword-and-sorcery exploits of characters such as Gwilor, Extendar, Battle Cat, Man-At-Arms, and Roboto.
“Masters of the Universe is one of the most iconic global franchises of all time, with a 30-year history and a passionate fan base,” he said. “The entire team at Mattel is excited to introduce the world of He-Man to a new generation and, together with the talented team at Netflix, to re-imagine the classic characters in a way that appeals to kids and families today, while also resonating with the fans who grew up with them.” The synopsis for the new series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reads: “On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe!
The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?” This isn’t the only plan Mattel has for Masters of the Universe franchise, as we should be expecting a feature film, a DC Comics’ comic book series, as well as a re-imagining of the 1980’s Toy-line, which will hit our screens in Fall of 2020.
