‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers find that fans have double the reason to celebrate as their favorite long running soap was just renewed for not one more season, but at least two!
Filming of season 56 of the NBC sudser wrapped last month and the set went dark as negotiations continued behind closed doors. While fans held their breaths and crossed their fingers, head writer, Ron Carlivati was always confident in a renewal, ensuring his writing team stayed hard at work.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Just Landed a 2-Year Renewal!
The down-to-the wire renewal didn’t just bring the great news fans were hoping for, but a surprising multi-year pick-up, a first for the soap since 2014.
While filming is on hiatus, the producers have been busy making deals with key cast members, in hopes of the renewal coming in. Veteran Robert Scott Wilson has already been resigned and Emmy winning Jackee Harry, portrayer of the recurring new character, Paulina Price has been brought on to the canvas full-time for at least season 57.
Celebrating its 14,000th episode in December, the show remains NBC’s longest-running series and, with enough new episodes “in the can” to not have to resort to repeats to get through the pandemic instigated Hollywood shutdown, the soap only gained popularity.
It was the loyal fans, however, that executive producer Ken Corday addressed when he announced, “After more than 55 years of bringing drama, adventure and romance to screens around the world, we are thrilled and honored to carry on the ‘Days of our Lives’ legacy for another two years.”
Renewal negotiations for the current season 56 were touch and go, with the idea of moving the soap to the NBC streaming platform, Peacock tossed around, if the show came back at all.
Happily, DOOL was renewed, 10 days after word got out that the entire cast had been released from their contracts and stayed on NBC.
Contract negotiations for some of the soap’s major stars, however, didn’t go as smoothly. The departure of Kristian Alfonso (Hope Brady) Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady) and Melissa Reeves (Jennifer Horton) did hurt the series, but it turns out not too much!
Two more years of Salem shenaningans! We can’t wait!
Tune in to season 56 (and 57 and 58!) of Days, weekdays on NBC!
