NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers finds that star Emily O’Brien recently opened up about playing her character Gwen Davies on the hit NBC soap. Here’s what she has to say.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, the talented and beautiful actress says playing a character that is far out of her comfort zone has been a challenge, but a rewarding experience at the same time.

The last time that fans got to see Emily on the canvas was when she played the quirky but also witchcraft-obsessed character Jana Hawkes on The Young and the Restless. This time around she is playing the girlfriend of Jake Lambert (Stefan DiMera), whose presence in Salem is nothing but disruptive for the equally volatile Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus).
Emily puts it this way, “Getting to play somebody who’s kind of raw and scruffy, a misanthrope who doesn’t really fit in very well, feels extremely comfortable for reasons that I don’t know,” chuckles O’Brien. “I really truly enjoy playing an outcast.”
And while Emily says that she’s nothing like her character in real life, as she is more “calm and self-centered,” she does feel an instant kinship playing Jake Lambert’s girlfriend, as there are some things about her character that she can relate too.
“She’s different and quite unpredictable and much more dangerous, maybe I should say. She doesn’t look or behave like most of the people in town, and that’s really fun,” says the actress. “There’s more room to make a character colorful than if you’re playing an ingenue or a straight character, and it’s more interesting.”
