NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers finds that start Emily O’Brien opens up about how she got her new role on DOOL and her comeback to the soap world. Speaking about her new role as Jake’s mysterious ex-girlfriend Gwen on the show, Emily tells Soap Opera Digest that it might have taken a few tries, but she has finally found her perfect fit as her new character. Gwen is not only Jake’s ex-girlfriend, but also someone who has a connection to Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan), as the two of them spent a lot of time getting to know one another while at Bayview Hospital. Here’s what she has to say.
Emily tells the publication, “It was for the best, because this role feels so good. It’s like a puzzle piece. I feel so comfortable because Gwen is so colorful, and there’s so much room to play.”

After 8 months of discretion, I can finally share with you that I have returned to Daytime TV, 10 years later. But this time, I have joined the multi faceted family over at Days of Our Lives. It feels odd to post this during such turbulent times, but if you need a respite from the news, we are one of the very few scripted shows left running on air. My first air date is tomorrow June 5 on NBC! #daysofourlives
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Emily O’Brien Says It’s Great To Be Back Home
At first, Emily had initially read for the role of Sarah Horton back in 2018. She recalls, “I went in three times and screen-tested with Greg Vaughan but I wasn’t right for that. They just envisioned somebody differently. A year later my agent calls and said, ‘Will you go in and read for this other role?’ I remember going in and it was very ominous in the room. The casting direction and the co-executive producer both told me, ‘Well, we’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that you are not going to be playing this role, but there’s a new role that we want to mold around you.’ That’s when the character of Gwen was born. She’s British. She’s wonderfully unpredictable and volatile and she’s completely fearless. She lives on the edge and with complete passion.” If Emily looks family, that’s because she played Jana on ‘Young and the Restless’ from 2006 to 2011. She points out, “That was 10 years ago. When I started on the show, I was 20, and that went on until 25. And when I left, I thought, ‘Yeah, okay. That was a good run.”
