Coldplay have responded after being criticised for greenwashing in response to their collaboration with oil company ‘Neste.’

Music Band ‘Coldplay’ BLASTED Following Accusations Of Greenwashing-‘Useful Idiots’

Greenwashing is the concept of providing misleading information in order to make a company appear to be more environmentally friendly than it otherwise would have been.

While the band’s intention was to ensure that they could decrease the amount of emissions being put out in the environment, when musicians travel on tour, the manner that they have gone about doing it has not gone down very well.

And one particular critic was none other than Carlos Calvo Ambel. The former just so happens to be the director of the Transport & Environment campaign group. He had highlighted the fact that Neste had been complicit in deforestation, which is contrary to the idea of protecting the environment.

In a statement, Carlos said: “This is a company that is linked to the kind of deforestation that would appall Chris Martin and his fans…Teaming up with a company linked to deforestation makes them useful idiots for greenwashing.”

As a result, the band came out in order to justify their stance. And they wanted to clear up any misconceptions that may have emerged by this. But rather than addressing the claims of deforestation that the company may have been involved in, the band decided to focus on other matters.

They spoke on the positive aspects that the company had been working on, as well as the fact that they had been given certain guarantees over the company’s approach. In response, the band stated: “We don’t claim to have got it all right yet.

“Before we appointed Neste as supplier of these biofuel products, we received their guarantee that they do not use any virgin materials in their production.”

It is ultimately a decision for the band to make, but based on the perception so far, it is probably not the wisest move that they could have made. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
