If you have gone down the binge-worthy shows on Netflix lately, you have seen one of the MTV dating shows, Are You The One. On this show, ten men and ten women are put on an island in Hawaii to see if they match up with the person who is the one for them. One of the contestants on the show, Connor Smith, has been in the news quite a bit. Now he is being investigated for sexual assault against a teenage girl.

    What Happened?

The news about Smith recently came out and the 31 year old has been charged with four felonies. These felonies include sexual battery and rape of a teenage girl. The court documents state that he forced himself on a 16-year old girl that he met online. When they met face to face, he asked her to perform a sexual act on him in his car. He took her to a hotel and that is where he raped the young woman.

Are You The One? Connor Smith Charges with Sexual Assault

This incident happened in Lake County, Indiana. Connor was taken into custody in Cook County, Illinois on Friday. Smith is also charged with two counts of criminal confinement. He is currently in the Cook County Jail and there has been no bond set for him.

Smith appeared on the reality show, Are You The One in 2015. He was one of 19 other contestants that went on to the show to try to find love and his “perfect match”. Not only did the cast members try to find the perfect match, they also were competing together to win $1 million.

If they were able to find all of the perfect matches, everyone on the show would win the money. If they failed to make any matches, they would lose money. Connor was one of the first to be paired up in a couple after he tried to fall in love with one of the first women he met.

Connor and has match did split up after the show was over and they cited quite a few differences and the distance wasn’t exactly what they had planned for. Smith’s attorneys have not made a comment on the charges that he is facing right now and his family has asked for privacy at this time until the charges are finalized.

If you know someone who has been sexually assaulted, please contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673 or go to rainn.org.
