A law enforcement agent who was present at a demonstration against a reading session held by drag queens for kids in Ohio was discovered to have given a high-five to a white nationalist.
Mother Demands To Know Why Police Officer Gave A High-Five To A White Nationalist At A Drag Queen Protest
The parent of a homosexual youngster has demanded an explanation for the policeman’s conduct. A cameraperson inquired of Columbus Police Sergeant Steven Dyer as to why he seemed to be cordially greeting the 50 heavily-armed participants in the far-right Proud Boys and Patriot Front group.
In response, Dyer said in the video: “To build relationships. I am not supporting their cause, I am not here hanging out with them. I am here to support their right to protest. I am very clear. I am not supporting their cause and you can request my body camera footage.”
The Red Oak Community School’s ‘Holi-Drag Storytime’ was planned to host three local drag artists who were going to read stories. The school argued that such an event would help to instil values like acceptance, compassion, and diversity in the minds of these youngsters and discourage bullying in the future.
Nearly 1,000 tickets were purchased at the school’s $10 event, generating more than $5,000 in proceeds to benefit a local LGBTQ+ organisation. That is why a mother at the event demanded to know the true motives of Dyer’s actions.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “I hope you’re telling me the truth,” to which Dyer remarked: “My goal is to facilitate people’s right to protest. I meet all kinds of groups. I am not supporting anybody’s cause.”
The response on social media was in agreement with Dyer. A significant proportion of people felt that this had been blown out of proportion, as he made it unequivocally clear that his focus was on the protesting.
One person wrote: “He’s also on duty—it’s his job to be there. He didn’t come voluntarily as a plain clothes civilian. What’s the issue with his answer?”
