M&M is getting rid of the beloved candy characters in favor of Maya Rudolph, because… reasons? After a change to the M&M characters, people were not fans of changing the personifications and becoming more ‘inclusive’. M&M did the cardinal sin that many creators and companies do, recreating existing characters instead of creating new ones.
There is nothing wrong with creating animated spokespeople that represent more people, but changing existing characters is silly and factors around decades of collectibles, ads and more. M&M is not just a candy, but a huge collectible series that people have been collecting for years, so, what will the prices happen to things like that?
Clownfish TV spoke briefly about the changes and you can see their video below.
M&M Is PAUSING Using Their M&M Animated Characters, Replacing Them With Comedian Maya Rudolph
M&M made the announcement that they would be putting the pause button on their characters saying, “now we get it – even a candy’s shoes can be polarizing. Which was the last thing M&M’s wanted since we’re all about bringing people together.” They continued, “Therefore, we have decided to take an indefinite pause from the spokescandies… We are confident that Ms. Rudolph will champion the power of fun to create a world where everyone feels they belong.”

People are not taking this well, commenting things like, “Someone realized what the old saying, “Go woke, Go Broke” means…”, “Super Bowl ad bait ^”, “Maya Rudolph is Black. Are you trying to say that Black people are chocolate candy? Well, now I just might be offended. I’m not woke, am I doing this right?”, “If you’re actually upset about the “shoes” a cartoon piece of candy “wears,” seek help immediately” and “You mean, your sales dipped after going woke and you don’t want to admit it outright?”
