Viewers spotted a problem with Harry and Meghan’s recollection of their first meeting. Harry revealed how he met Meghan in the docuseries – but it appeared to contradict past versions. In a previous interview about their engagement in 2017, Harry claimed that he had proposed to the Duchess in the kitchen on a “standard, typical night” in their cottage. But the new series says Harry proposed in a candlelit garden.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also revealed their romance started on Instagram. “I was scrolling through my feed, and one of my friends and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, like a Snapchat,” Harry recalled.
After seeing the snap of Markle with a dog filter, the British prince was curious to know more. “I was like, ‘Who is THAT?’” he shared.
Within the opening minutes Harry said: “This isn’t just about our story. So much bigger than just us. No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth. The institution knows the full truth and the media know the full truth ‘cause they’ve been in on it. I think anyone else in my situation would have done the same thing.”
Episode one opened with words written in white on a black background which said: “This is a first-hand account of Harry & Meghan’s story, told with never before seen personal archive. All interviews were completed by August 2022. Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series.”
Meanwhile, excerpts of Diana’s Panorama interview – which Prince William said “should never be aired again” – were shown within the episode. The Prince of Wales said last year that the interview should never be aired again after a BBC inquiry found that it had been secured through deception and only added to the late princess’ fear and paranoia in the wake of her divorce from Charles.
