Meghan Markle gifted King Charles an As Ever PR box in a feeble attempt at an olive branch between Prince Harry and his father.
Was Meghan Trying To Improve Her PR?
Royal correspondent Neil Sean claimed that a “very well-placed source” revealed that Meghan Markle sent a sample box of As Ever goodies to Clarence House, which was accompanied by a personal note from the Duchess of Sussex.
According to Sean’s source, Meghan Markle sent him jams, honey, crepe mix, and various other items. Another royal expert, Ian Pelham Turner, said that if Meghan sent this package to the King, it would be her way of “building bridges” with the royal family.
“I understand that she may not feel respected still, but tiny gestures like this are her way of showing compassion for what the King is going through and helping to rebuild bridges between Prince William, Prince Harry, and the King,”
The expert explained.
However, some are saying that Meghan’s gesture of so-called “goodwill” was based on her desire for “good PR.”
Charles and Meghan’s relationship started off positively as he acted as her mentor. He educated her in royal and constitutional history. They both shared a love history and formed a strong bond.
Charles also walked Meghan down the aisle at her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018. After Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in January 2020, the rift between Harry and the royal family got the ball rolling.
The rift deepened when Harry and Meghan made false claims and allegations against the royal family during their March 2021 interview with Oprah.
Harry’s Calls And Letters Have Gone Unanswered
Insiders close to Prince Harry say the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and his father has become even more strained as Harry has been “left in the dark about the King’s cancer battle.”
Sources close to Harry also claim that his calls and letters to members of the family have gone unanswered.
He found out through media reports that his father was hospitalized at the end of March instead of being told directly.
If Meghan is hoping for a thank you for sending Charles an As Ever box, she’ll have to wait a long time.
Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle product line has received much criticism as one of Meghan’s favorite publications, “The Cut,” recently took a swipe at her jam, calling it “slimy and viscous and a bit like baby food.”
The publication asked members of its team to taste the jam, but most of the reviews were negative. The Cut’s senior writer, EJ Dickson, exclaimed,
“It sucks! It is like something you’d see at the toppings bar at Pinkberry, not a functional, standalone jam itself.”
Dickson added,
“I would argue that not only Bonne Maman is far superior, but also Smucker’s. Very disappointing. I figured she’d be better at making jam than producing podcast content, but no.”
Feature editor Catherine Thompson said,
“I wouldn’t pay $14 for this. Its consistency is a little too thin for my taste. You really wouldn’t be able to spread it on toast.”
If gifting the King an As Ever box is Meghan’s way of building a bridge, she needs to rethink her strategy.
