Matthew McConaughey is doing something that he hasn’t done before, and that’s getting political in public. As a matter of fact, the Hollywood actor recently went on the record to slam the industry he works in on the “hypocrisy” over the 2020 election results. Here’s what he has to say.
Speaking to Russell Brand on his Under the Skin podcast, Matthew was asked if he noticed any “condemnation and criticism of ordinary working people” from the entertainment industry about the election.
Russell said, “[There is] a kind of offhandedness, like, ‘Oh, they’re dumb, they’re voting for Brexit, they’re voting for Donald J. Trump.’ I don’t like it, and I don’t like to hear it.”
Matthew McConaughey Gets Political: Wants Everyone To Meet In The Middle
Of course, it didn’t take very long for the actor to respond. He said, “There are a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize, and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent.”
Matthew continued, “I’m sure you saw it in our industry when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that was real. Some of them were in absolute denial. [Now] it looks like Biden’s our guy. Now you’ve got the right that’s in denial, cause their side has fake news. And I understand, they’ve been fed fake news. No one knows what the hell to believe, right? So they’re putting down their last bastion of defense.”
The handsome actor also said that people should reframe political conversations by trying to meet in the middle instead.
“I almost feel like it’s a move to say, “Let’s get aggressively centric. I dare you,” he said.
Just last month, the Oscar Winning actor said that he wouldn’t mind running for the highest office in his home state of Texas in a new interview with The Hugh Hewitt Show.
“I don’t know. I mean, that wouldn’t be up to me,” the actor said when he was asked whether or not he would enter the political arena in the future. “It would be up to the people more than it would me.”
He explained further: “I would say this. Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now. And when politics redefines its purpose, I could be a hell of a lot more interested.”
