Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ Official Trailer Released – Red Guardian, The White Suit & Taskmaster or Hawkeye?

It’s here! 10 years after Black Widow’s introduction to the MCU in Iron Man 2, we finally get a Black Widow film. Marvel’s Black Widow trailer for the film that stars Scarlett Johansson is out on YouTube and we can get our first impression of the film for our own eyes. Black Widow did die in the Marvel blockbuster film Avengers: Endgame but this takes place before and finally gives fans a chance to see more of Johansson’s Black Widow, whom some felt was underutilized throughout the MCU.

According to a summary on IMDB, “At birth, the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. The standalone film will find Romanoff living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union.”

Black Widow is said to take place between the films Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and her missions between them. It is also rumored that beloved Iron Man star, Robert Downey Jr. will have a cameo as Tony Stark. Though this is just rumored at the moment.

    Check out the trailer below.

Without giving everything away we get a lot of cool things in the trailer. We see glimpses of Natasha’s past life as a teen being groomed by the KGB and the horrors she must have witnessed. Along with the flashback we get to meet her sister, who looks to have a great choreographed fight inside a small apartment involving some fun gunplay.

The trailer also boasts incredible action set pieces and stunts. We see an explosion in midair while several gunmen fall and attack Natasha, we travel to the snow with an all-white Black Widow outfit and we see incredible foot chases across building tops and tall columns.

Perhaps the most exciting, other than the return of Johansson’s Black Widow, is Stranger Things star and fan-favorite David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian. The Red Guardian is an identity that was created as the Soviet equivalent of Captain America, although its use has continued after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Black Widow also sees the return of William Hurt’s Thaddeus Ross, whom we were first introduced to in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Perhaps we will see more of a role from Hurt in this film that sets itself apart in the timeline.

This will be the 24th entry into the MCU and co-star Florence Pugh (Fighting with My Family, Outlaw King), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Constant Gardener), and William Hurt (A History of Violence, Dark City) and is expected to release May 1st, 2020. To leave you with something to ponder, do you think it is Marvel villain Taskmaster in the trailer, or possibly Hawkeye? Some have speculated it is indeed Agent Barton but only time will tell. Let us know who you think it is.
