Joe LaMuraglia wasn’t about to give up when his absentee ballot didn’t make it! It was his determination that compelled him to drive 2,000 miles from Massachusetts to Savannah, Ga. and back again! All of this to ensure that his vote would be counted!
LaMuraglia has been living with his partner in West Roxbury since COVID-19 hit and requested an absentee ballot to from Georgia where he’s registered and has a home. However, weeks went by and his absentee ballot never arrived. Concerned, he called the elections office in Georgia to find out what was going on. According to the Boston Globe, LaMuraglia had this to say,
“They looked it up, they were able to track it, and they had the street address and they had the zip code right, but they had the state wrong — they sent it to Virginia.”
Man Drives 2,000 Miles Roundtrip To Vote After Absentee Ballot Didn’t Make It!
Like many others in the country, mail-in and absentee ballots have been getting “lost” or “misplaced” by voters on both sides of the aisle. The entire thing has been messy with the influx since COVID-19 came and has made voting by mail very tedious.
While it’s not possible for everyone to make it to the polls today, I’d encourage you to. Especially if you’re like LaMuraglia and never received your absentee ballot. Make sure your voice is heard and your vote counts!
What do you think? Did you go to the polls or did you vote by mail? Let us know in the comments below.
