Seeing how she was once idolized so much by Britney Spears, you’d think that Madonna Louise Ciccone would have said something about her controversial conservatorship or her heartbreaking court hearing when it happened.
But no, instead it took Madonna nearly two weeks to speak out against Spears’ hardships in her life and show her the public support that she needs. Madonna finally released a statement that says she’s on Team Britney. Here’s what you need to know.
During Britney Spears’ hearing, she called her conservatorship “abusive.” She has claimed that she had been forced to perform and take medication against her will.
Madonna Is Speaking Out About Britney Spears’ Conservatorship – Two Weeks Late
As many fans already know, Britney Spears‘ conservatorship is split into two parts – one is for her estate and financial affairs, the other is for her as a person. Under this legal agreement, the singer has not controlled her finances since 2008.
Even though some stars such as Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera have shown their support for Britney Spears soon after she spoke out in court, Madonna only took to her Instagram Story on Thursday to add her two cents in on the matter. She also wore a tank top with Britney Spears’ name on it.
“Give this woman her life back,” Madonna began. “Slavery was abolished so long ago! Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries. This is a violation of human rights! Britney we coming to get you out of jail!”
Spears has previously made her feelings about the court-ordered conservatorship known through her lawyer Samuel Ingham, including last year, when he said she was scared of her father and would not perform again while he controlled her life.
The next court hearing is scheduled for July 14.
