As reported by Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery has added another show to their slate of canceled shows and movies ahead of Little Ellen’s season 3.
The show began in 2019 as part of three Ellen DeGeneres-related shows for HBO Max along with Ellen’s Home Design Challenge and First Dates Hotel.
Ellen Digital Ventures and Warner Bros. Animation produced the series and 20 eleven-minute episodes over the first two seasons, and it’s loosely based on Ellen’s early life. It reminds us of the 1980s Saturday morning cartoon Little Rosey which was loosely based on Rosanne’s early life.
With the voice talents of Laurel Emory, Johanna Colon, JeCobi Swain, and June Squibb, the show followed the adventures of 7-year-old Ellen (voiced by Laurel Emory), her eccentric Gramsy, best friend Freckle, her cousin Becky, and cat Charlie in New Orleans.
The third season was reportedly completed and was expected to be released in June, but it was pushed back.
Purchase accounting
This news follows the canceling of the $90 million Batgirl, and last week news broke that the reality TV series The Big D was also canceled a couple of weeks before its premiere.
While it’s been reported Batgirl was pulled due to looking too low budget, the reason that’s been reported since then is they’re being canceled for tax reasons.
This allows Warner Bros. Discovery to wave the costs, known as “purchase accounting”, with the opportunity to do this reportedly ending mid-August, hence why so many were pulled in such a short time period.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s moves have also called into question HBO Max’s animated strategy as other projects may be affected by this as well.
Undermining fan’s faith
While these moves make sense to someone, for many fans it’s just another day at the office for some of their favorite franchises like DC and any credibility the company may have had is being devalued even more.
This is also another potential problem for Ellen following her daytime talk show ending after various allegations came out about her behavior.
We’re curious what will happen with Ellen’s other two HBO Max projects, and whether or not she’ll attempt to find another home for Little Ellen.
What do you think is next for Ellen, and will she find another home for her show, or will she leave it and move onto something else? Let us know in the comments below.
