Lance Bass, who is best known for being in the hit band NSYNC, has responded to the backlash coming towards Colton Underwood amid his decision to come out as a gay man.
Lance Bass: Colton Underwood Has Been Accused Of ‘Monetizing’ His Story
The star of The Bachelor made significant headlines with his revelations, given that he had entered the show until the end and even dated some of the women he had met. That is why there has been some suspicion around his reveal. In an interview on The Ben & Ashley I. Almost Famous Podcast, Lance said: “He’s definitely gonna get a lot of backlash from the community at first.
“Not the majority, but there is a small percentage of the community that’s just gonna not like the fact that he came out this way, that he’s monetizing the experience.” That statement may have some grounds, regardless of Colton’s intentions. Firstly, he has seen his public profile take a huge increase in exposure, with many media appearances already underway.
Not only that, Netflix has reportedly agreed to do a series on Colton’s journey in coming out as a gay man. Although no official release date has been confirmed, he is certainly in line to receive a big pay cheque. That is why the response has been mixed. He added: “This gay community is very diverse, but we can also be very fickle.
But I don’t think Colton is trying to lead that charge of trying to be the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.” But if there is anyone who can understand what Colton is going through, then it would be Lance. During his time with NSYNC, the group became one of the biggest boy bands in the world. With that, Lance became a heartthrob for many women worldwide. And yet, he was concealing the fact that he was gay.
Whether that was for financial reasons or merely because he was worried, Lance still faced similar accusations as Colton. He continued: “90% of my fans were women, and they all thought I was straight. I made my money off women and singing about love and using that market. So me coming out, it was scary… cause now everyone is gonna see me as a liar.”
