La Reina Del Sur 2 Recap 4/25/2019: Season 2, Episode 4 “De regreso a Espana” – Coming Back To Spain
No me reproches
The episode opens with a gorgeous shot of the water and sky that quickly takes a dark turn, as a body is being found and dragged from the ocean. Later, in a continuation of what’s a flashback, we see Cayetana Segovia (Luisa Gavasa) identifying her son’s body before we go back to the modern day.
Cayetana is with the Spanish Federal Police, demanding action yet again on her son’s death. She thinks they’ve been useless, but now she knows Teresa has returned to the scene of the crime. She seems to be playing two angles to hedge her bets, as she’s still got Siso Pernas (Miguel Ángel Blanco) on Teresa Medoza’s (Kate del Castillo) trail.
La Reina Del Sur 2: Losing his cool
Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita) is feeling confident in his ability to overcome the growing lead his opponent has—especially when he knows he’s got Teresa on the job. He doesn’t think he needs to bother with the talking points prepared for him. He’s so wrong.
A spitfire journalist who we are so in love with right now (and shows she’s a million times better than most real-life ones) is running this thing. Her name is Marietta Lancaster (Anna Ciocchetti). Not only that, but she has a particular dislike for Epifanio. She nails him on ties to the infamous Teresa Mendoza, who accused him once of being the leader of a cartel. She even questions how on earth a senator made enough to have some of the properties in his name. Okay, really. Can we please make her real and put her on American televisions? Anyway, Epifanio gets increasingly hostile as the interrogation goes on, and goes off on how she’s being extra hard on him. They get into it, and Epifanio storms out of the interview.
In the car, Alejandro Alcalá (Mark Tacher) warns him that he really needs to watch himself, especially with her. She’s a well-respected and highly-watched journalist. Epifanio gives no you-know-whats and continues to put all his hopes for the presidency in the plot he drafted Teresa for. He’s not all that bright, and we’ll see why in a bit.
La Reina Del Sur Season 2: Estás despedida
Manuela (Paola Núñez) arrives at Jonathon Peres’ (Tiago Correa) apartment, dressed as asked and ready for some action. What she gets isn’t what she was expecting. Jonathon is lukewarm with her and accuses her of lying before Willy Rangel (Christian Tappan) steps into the room and also accuses her before handing her an envelope. She’s no longer part of the DEA. Manuela is confused and plays innocent for a bit, until she’s told they’re well aware that she was in Mexico and that, for some weird reason, Teresa had mercy on her. Willy says she’s jeopardized their mission, and she should’ve thought of the consequences beforehand. Willy still isn’t totally sold on the idea that Jonathon is totally innocent in this, either.

Fan club
Teresa manages to give Epifanio’s men the slip as she enters Spain, determined to meet up with Oleg Yosikov (Antonio Gil). In the cab, she comes across a guy named Jesús (Jesús Castro) who wants to know where she’s from after hearing her accent. Saying she’s Mexican, he suddenly remembers another Mexican that used to be there: La Reina del Sur. He’s a fan, as a cousin of his once worked for her. She inquires about his cousin, only to learn the man died. Apparently, moving hashish wasn’t the same after La Reina disappeared.
While she goes inside the club to meet Oleg, he stays in the cab and goes through her stuff. He thinks he’s hit the jackpot when he sees all the money in there, but gets spooked and drives away after a call from Willy says the cops are on their way and she needs to leave. Some fan.
As for Teresa, she has just walked into a trap, as Oleg isn’t there—but Siso is.
La Reina 2: No soy Morgana
As for our Reina-in-training, Sofia Dantes (Isabella Sierra) is being petulant as ever with her captors, mouthing off to Francesco Belmondo (Raoul Bova) when he tries to make her eat breakfast. He tells her he’s not Morgana (Norma Angélica)—he doesn’t fear the dead. What’s more, he has no problem with stuffing her in an underground compartment in her room if she doesn’t behave. She isn’t scared really, because she knows they can’t hurt her and tells him so.

Later, he allows her to watch a video Teresa sent her. Teresa tells her to hang in there and remember everything that she’s been taught. What’s more, she needs to fight tooth and nail to defend herself, if need be. Francesco allows Sofia to record a response, where she tells her mother to come and cut the heads off every kidnapper. This kid is totally badass. Where did she come from? Because we still refuse to believe this is a Telenovela kid. She promises her mother she has everything Teresa taught her stored in her brain and she’s brave like other Dantes women.
