King Charles spoke publicly yesterday for the first time since his cancer diagnosis. Until then, we had only heard from his wife, Queen Camilla, and his son and heir to the throne, Prince William.

It was wonderful for the UK to hear from its King. Charles expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the nation.

King Charles Thanked Everyone For Their Prayers and Support

The prayers and support from the UK and other areas of the world have been generous and unceasing since the news of Charles’s condition became public.

Charles had this to say in response to all the well-wishes from around the world:

“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days. As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”

    He continues,

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations that support cancer patients and their families across the UK and the wider world. My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”

The King is all class: short, sweet, and to the point. His Majesty is due for rest and relaxation. He has been staying at Sandringham since he was discharged from the hospital after his corrective prostate procedure.

Tomorrow, he will attend church service, where he is bound to get more prayers, love, and support. The King has had to cancel his engagements, but William is taking on some of his royal duties and his own.

Charles Will Rest and Engage in His Favorite Hobbies

Charles will likely rest and engage in two of his favorite hobbies, walking and water painting. Art can be a very relaxing exercise for people, and the King is no different. He is just like everyone else who heals and thrives from positive activity.

Charles will also likely listen to some soothing music. One of his favorite artists is Leonard Cohen. Charles is also fond of everything from Barbra Streisand to opera.

The King will return to London next week for a medical appointment and is also looking forward to face-to-face meetings. The King may rest on the Sandringham Estate, where he will have more privacy. His late mother, the Queen, and Prince Philip liked it there.

Since Charles announced his diagnosis, cancer charities have seen an increase in interest in learning about it and have helped others whose lives have been changed by a cancer diagnosis or are seeking support.

It is because of the King’s openness about his prostate procedure that there has also been an increase in men having their prostate checked and gathering information about it.

So Charles has made an enormous difference for people. Earlier this week, Prince William addressed his father’s diagnosis at a charity event. He thanked everyone for their kind words, not just for the King but also for his wife, Kate Middleton, and those who support the royal family.
