Katie Couric has spoken out on the sexual harassment allegations that have been made against her former co-host Matt Lauer.

The pair worked together as hosts of the Today show, but beneath the surface, it looked as though Matt was anything but suitable for the role. And yet, it does raise the question of why did Katie not speak out much earlier.
The answer to that was she was unaware of the split personality that Matt had. Naturally, when she heard about the allegations, she was rightly horrified.
In an interview with People magazine, Katie said: “What upset me the most about hearing these stories [was] that obviously [his behavior] was grossly inappropriate, but also it just seemed so callous.”
Nevertheless, it seems that Matt was very good at covering his tracks. And given that he was such a big name within the talk show industry, it was going to take a lot for any victims to come forward.
But when they did, Katie was still in disbelief, given that she had worked with Matt for so long over the years. She added: “And that’s not the Matt I knew.
“There’s a duality in human beings, and sometimes they don’t let you see both sides.” Having said all that, Katie did admit that she knew Matt did like to look at the ladies.
The primary reason for this was because Matt was beginning to have doubts about his own marriage. Her following comments confirmed as much: “He was a flirt. Certainly, I read that he was unhappy in his marriage.”
Naturally, the incident could not go unnoticed. The producers of the show decided to act in the quickest manner possible. They responded by firing Matt and making sure that a thorough investigation was done so that nothing like this could ever happen at the workplace again.
By Katie speaking out, it shows that there are people within the entertainment industry who are ready to give a voice to those that have suffered.
