Kate Was “Left In a Flood of Tears” After Watching Hamnet
Princess Catherine and Prince William appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London for the annual BAFTA awards earlier today.
Their appearance comes after the former Prince Andrew’s arrest for suspicion of public misconduct while in office on Thursday morning.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace confirmed,
“I can confirm the Prince and Princess of Wales have been deeply concerned about the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”
The royal couple appeared to be in “good spirits” as they arrived for the awards. The Prince of Wales admitted that he had not yet watched the BAFTA best picture nominee, Hamnet.
William said he needed to be in a calm mood in order to view the film. With everything going on concerning his exiled uncle Andrew’s scandal, who could blame him?
However, he shared that Kate had watched the movie last night and was “left in a flood of tears.” When the future King was asked why he had not seen the picture yet, he responded,
“I need to be in a quiet, calm state, and I am not at the moment. I will save it.”
The film Hamnet is about the tragic death of Shakespeare’s son, who died during childhood, and the overwhelming grief his parents experienced as a result.
Kate joked that she thought it was a “bad idea” to watch the film, since she “ended up with very puffy eyes.” The Princess had high praise for Hamnet.
She noted, “It was so beautifully shot. The music as well. The score is fantastic.” Kate also shared her “appreciation for the movie’s depiction of ‘intergenerational grief.”
William Hadn’t Yet Seen Several Nominated Pictures
Kate told Elaine Bedell, Southbank Center chief executive,
“The child actors in the film did so well.”
She also added that she
“loved the connection to nature” in the film.
Kate said,
“It was very stripped back, and you could see the human emotions.”
She told Bedell,
“We have a long list of films to get through.”
William admitted he had not yet seen Marty Surpreme. He was a bit reluctant, considering the film’s “dark vampire theme.”
However, the Prince did see One Battle After Another. He remarked,
“We were not expecting it to start the way it did.”
Kate also revealed that their children were starting to watch more films. Kate and William’s appearance at the BAFTA awards this Sunday marks their first time they attended the awards since 2023.
The couple shares an interest in British creativity and champion it through their engagements, patronages, and, of course, Kate frequently wears British fashion designers.
The pair arrived on the red carpet shortly after several big-name actors, like Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone, strolled into the auditorium.
Plus, a puppet of Paddington Bear, whom the late Queen had adored, was presented as the award for best children’s and family film.
Kate and William’s appearance at the BAFTA film awards today was a welcome distraction from the Andrew mess. It’s always wonderful to see the couple out and about, especially after Kate’s devastating cancer ordeal.
