Kate Middelton visited the city of Leicester today and a Hindu temple. The Princess of Wales was gifted a garland of pearls and roses to wear as she arrived.
Kate Made an Exception to Royal Protocol and Danced Barefoot with a Group of Bollywood Dancers
A spirited group of Bollywood dancers performed as she told them her children would “love their dance moves.” The temple is called the Shree Dham Haveli Hindu Temple.
Later, Kate joined the traditional dance. She made an exception to her usual dedication to following royal protocol by dancing barefoot. She removed her shoes to dance with a circle of women, showing respect for their faith and culture.
Princess Kate’s visit comes one day after the Hindu festival of Holi, which is a joyful celebration of love, spring, color, and new life.
The festival involves lighting bonfires to symbolize burning evil. On the second day, they throw colored powders and water in a public display in unity and joy.
After Kate watched the Bollywood dance show, she was led into a candlelit ballroom. She watched the performance of Songs about Bulbul.
The Princess started her day in Leicester at a dance company run by Aakash Odedra and watched the rehearsal, which is the interpretation of a story about a captured songbird.
At the end of the performance, Kate seemed to wait for it to be appropriate for her to start clapping, prompting someone to jokingly say, “You can clap now,” which made the Princess laugh.
Kate said of the rehearsal,
“That was so moving. Extraordinary. She told the orchestra, “Thank you. That was fantastic.”
Odedra established the dance company in 2011 with the hope that it would
“create a happier, healthier society through dance and arts.”
According to the Daily Mail,
“Last year the dance troupe joined forces with Move Against Cancer to offer Bollywood movement lessons to those recovering from cancer.”
Kate and Prince William Enjoyed Their Respective Solo Engagements Today
Kate announced last year that her cancer was in remission. She had been diagnosed with the illness in 2024.
Kate received treatment at Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She endured a course of chemotherapy, and made a slow, measured return to her royal duties.
In January 2025, her first royal engagement since her diagnosis was at the hospital to express her gratitude to the staff for her care. When she left the community center, she was surrounded by crowds who requested hugs and selfies.
The Princess also went into Bobby’s restaurant, a family-owned and operated business named after the Bollywood film Bobby. The future Queen was invited to sit down and enjoy some chai and traditional Indian sweets.
According to the Daily Mail,
“Kate said her visit was under ‘happier circumstances.’ Her last visit was with Prince William in 2018, when they paid tribute to victims of a helicopter crash.”
The first time Princess Kate visited Leicester was in March 2012 with the late Queen. It was the first outing of the monarch’s Diamond Jubilee tour of the country.
While Kate went on her royal outing to Leicester, Prince William went on a solo engagement. He made a Cornish pastry in Helston, Cornwall. The Prince of Wales was there to celebrate St. Piran’s Day.
William visited the Gear Farm Pastry Company. He spooned potatoes into the pastries in the bakery and quipped, “Don’t worry, I can take full criticism.”
Today, Prince William holds the title “Duke of Cornwall,” a title he inherited from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, upon her passing in September 2022.
