Posters around Europe on buildings are showing some very famous women who appear to be brutally beaten in an effort to grab people’s attention to better understand domestic violence. It’s ‘… interesting.

AleXsandro Palombo is the artist behind the photoshopped images of Vice President Kamala Harris, British Dutchess Kate Middleton, Spanish Queen Letizia, French politician Christine Lagarde and more, making them appear to be victims of domestic violence in the new series, “She reported him, but she was killed anyway.”

So far the posters have been seen in Milan and Spain. They feature the women’s photo with big text saying, “She reported him” with the following at the bottom, “But nobody believed her – But she was left alone — But she was not protected – But he was not arrested – But she was killed anyway.”

Famous women portrayed as domestic abuse victims for anti-violence campaign

The artist says his end game is to “draw attention to the poor responses from politics regarding the problem of gender-based violence and highlights the ineffectiveness of the support and protection system to the victims. Why should a woman report the violence if after the report she is not protected by the institutions and ends up being killed anyway? How can a woman victim of abuse and violence still have faith in the institutions?”

I understand the message here, you shouldn’t beat your wife, but this seems like a terrible way to promote a better message. Not only are the photoshops not the best, but using prominent women in this way feels odd. I don’t understand who these are for? Is a man who’s been beating his wife for three years going to see these and have an epiphany?

Perhaps I’m not seeing something here, or I just don’t understand, but it feels like this is going more for the shock value, especially with using such popular women in the images.

What do you think? Do you think this is doing any good for domestic violence? Let us know in the comments below.
