Josh Duggar was arrested on federal charges of possession of child porn. The Duggar family is asking for prayers. Though prayers for who exactly is beyond me. Prayers for the victims? Certainly, clearly there were a lot of people that were hurt to satisfy Josh Duggar’s voracious and depraved sexual appetite.
We don’t know what type of child porn that Duggar was in posession of but we don’t need to know, if someone is too young to give consent then that automatically makes it sexual abuse. It’s not like this was Josh being in possession of a playboy or even a hustler magazine, this is stuff that its a federal crime to get your hands on.
And that’s what makes it terrifying.
If they’re asking for prayers for his wife, Anna, then, by all means let’s send up a few for her because not only has she stood by this man through thick and thin, but she has also bore 6 kids and is also announced her pregnancy with number 7 just a few days before this scandal broke.
I can’t imagine that she knew anything about the activities that her husband was partaking in and if she did then that makes it all the more heartbreaking because the branch of religion that the Duggars partake in does not look kindly upon divorce, and if the man is abusing the woman then victim blaming abounds and the question is never whether the man is loving his wife as God loved the church but whether or not the wife is doing her part and not intentionally making her husband stumble in his walk with Christ. (What about her walk?) The burden of the marriage is always on the woman in this particular branch of the religion.
While fundamentalists keep a strict purity clause on their women and girls and make them toe the line constantly, if the boys overstep their boundaries then nothing is done about it.
For instance, this could have all been prevented way back when, when they first discovered that Josh had abused his sisters and other neighborhood girls as a minor, if he had gotten the psychological help he needed then possibly no one would have needed to have been arrested, but instead of getting Josh the proper help the Duggars swept things under the rug by sending Josh off to someone’s construction company to help remodel a house and “work off” his frustrations. Hard labor is not a remedy for a psychological problem.
Fundamentalists do not believe in therapy. They believe that all of their struggles are caused by the adversary and that enough time and prayer will help and sometimes we just have to “love someone through” their “addiction”.
Fundamentalists also don’t believe in dating and getting to know each other as people. They believe in getting married straight out of the gate so that they can have all that God-honoring sex and not have any babies that are out of wedlock (God knows they hate out of wedlock children), and forget birth control because only God should choose the size of your family.
Fertility problems or if it’s detrimental to the woman to have children? That’s just God’s plan, suck it up and die so that Jebediah can have son #13!
Anna Duggar has taken more than her fair share of flack in this marriage, back in 2015 there was an entire scandal involving the Ashley Madison website where a lot of users personal information was leaked – one of these users was Josh Duggar. We all cringed for Anna because we knew that according to everyone who looks at life through a normal lens, that she had done nothing to provoke that.
However, we knew that in private she would be blamed and that she would be forced to love this monster through his “addiction” instead of being allowed to grieve and give her and her children a healthy distance from their father’s betrayal of his vows.
While we’re praying, let’s say a prayer for those innocent kids that he’s put out into the world and hope that Anna can get up the strength to raise 7 babies on her own and get them any potential help that they may need in the future, knowing what a garbage dump their Father is.
And if we’re to say any prayers for the Duggars themselves, particularly Jim Bob, it’s that he realizes that he screwed this up and could have prevented this by getting Josh the psychological help that he needed way back in the day and that maybe as his son sits in federal prison he can talk to God about just how many people his lack of action ended up failing, not just his own son.
