John Cleese “Cancels” Himself From Cambridge University After Attendee Was Banned For Impersonating Adolf Hitler: “I Did the Same Thing On Monty Python”

Actor John Cleese has taken cancel culture to the next level by unilaterally canceling himself and not attending an event at Cambridge University after another guest was banned for doing an impression of Adolf Hitler.

John, for his part, is held in high regard by the university, given that he had actually attended it. And as his career has gone onto new heights by being one of Britain’s most esteemed actors, he was outraged when Andrew Graham-Dixon was banned from attending.

Andrew is a historian and was prevented from coming after he had decided to have a full-blown argument by championing the character of Hitler in order to make a point in a debate.

In an official statement, John felt it was only right he did not attend, given that he had done something similar on a comedy show. He said: “I hear that someone there has been blacklisted for doing an impersonation of Hitler.

“I regret that I did the same on a Monty Python show, so I am blacklisting myself before someone else does.” In response, Keir Bradwell, who happens to be the President of the Cambridge Union, had a lot to say on the matter.

Although he did not retract his decision nor express any regret towards it, he is hoping that John will be able to still attend at some point in the future. And yet, this is going to be very difficult for the following reasons.

First of all, given that John has decided to cancel himself, it is very hard for him to go back to the university. After all, how long does this cancel concept apply?

Secondly, if John were to return, then it could cause problems as he has created a precedent of potentially allowing others to state that he should be cancelled once again based on his prior activities.

Keir, though, is hoping that things can be resolved. He added: “We very much hope that we will be able to host him at some point – he’s the kind of speaker that would thrive with our audience and in our room.”

It is safe to say that John is not a fan of cancel culture. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
