Fox News has been singled out for criticism after it had allegedly edited a video in order to make US President Joe Biden appear making a racial gaffe.
Fox News Edits Video Of Joe Biden To Make Him Appear Racially Crude
During a speech at Veterans Day, the US President was paying homage to legendary baseball player, Satchel Paige. The latter made his name when he began playing baseball in the ‘Negro Leagues,’ a set up for African American players before making it into the Major League Baseball set up.
As a way to harness his great fighting spirit, the President had nothing but warm words to say about him. In his speech, he had said: “[I] adopted the attitude of the great Negro, at the time pitcher in the Negro Leagues.
“[He] went on to become a great pitcher in the pros in Major League Baseball after Jackie Robinson, his name was Satchel Paige”.
However, when the TV network showed the clip, Fox News decided to edit it to make the President look insensitive. While the word ‘Negro’ was used in the past, African American is now the most popular term.
But by editing it, this made the President look out of touch. The edited clip stated: “[I]adopted the attitude of the great Negro at the time, pitcher, name was Satchel Paige.”
Despite the attempts to make the President look incapable, it did not have the impact of doing so. Bob Kendrick, who happens to be the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, understood exactly where Joe was coming from.
In fact, he praised him for referring to the legendary Satchel Paige in his speech. According to TMZ, Bob had said the following: “It was an honour that the President made a point to honour Satchel Paige, who happened to be one of the greatest pitchers.”
President Biden may have gotten away with it this time, but he does need to take more care over what he says to prevent others from having the chance to distort his words.
There is already scrutiny on him over doubts about his cognitive health, and this incident is not going to do him any favours. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
