Jennifer Love Hewitt has opened up on the struggles she has faced with her appearance, during the early years of her acting career.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Opens Up On The Comments She Received Over Her Body

In an interview with Vulture, she revealed the uncomfortable comments that would often come her way. She said: “At the time that I was going through it … interviewers were asking what now would be [considered] incredibly inappropriate, gross things. For some reason, in my brain, I was able to just go, ‘OK, well, I guess they wouldn’t be asking if it was inappropriate.”

At the time, Jennifer was not putting those feelings at the forefront of her mind. After all, she was making waves as an actress. She starred in some of the biggest TV shows on air, such as Law and Order and Family Guy. Not only that, she had started to make appearances in some cinematic movies too. But ever since she had children, Jennifer realised the difficulties she had gone through.

She added: “I remember one specific moment wishing that the acting had overshadowed all that. Now that I’m older, I think, ‘Gosh, I wish that I had known how inappropriate that was so I could have defended myself somehow or just not answered those questions.” And the inappropriateness of the comments was evident for all to see.

Jennifer outlined how she would be commented on her clothing, whereas her acting skills would either be overshadowed or disregarded. Clearly, as an actress, that was hard to take. She continued: “The conversation for a very long time in my career was always about [my body] first — then, ‘Oh yeah, you were really great in the movie, too,’ later. I didn’t get it. That’s just what I looked like, and I was doing my job.”

But she thanked another star, Britney Spears, for highlighting the issues that young women face within the entertainment industry. It was during Jennifer’s viewing of the Framing Britney Spears documentary that it all hit home. She noted: “I’m really grateful [for the documentary] that we’re in a time where, hopefully, that narrative is going to change for young girls who are coming up now. They won’t have to have those conversations.”
