James Charles will no longer be making a buck off of YouTube. There’s a new report that says the beauty influencer has been “demonetized” by the platform following a series of inappropriate messages that he sent to minors. Here’s what you need to know.

James Charles, who has collaborated with artists such as Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, was accused of sexting with several underage fans within the last few months.

And now YouTube is doing something about it. The video sharing site said it has temporarily removed Charles from its Partner Program – which is what YouTubers sign up to for the chance to make money.

James Charles Suspended From YouTube’s Program Following Inappropriate Messages To Minor

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we had applied our creator responsibility policy and temporarily removed James Charles from the YouTube Partner Program.”

However, it is not known for how long he will be suspended. YouTube’s Creator Responsibility guide states: “Remember that as YouTube creators, you should remain responsible both on and off the platform. If we see that a creator’s on- and/or off-platform behavior harms our users, community, employees or ecosystem, we may take action to protect the community.”

Addressing the allegations of two 16-year-old boys who said that they’d engaged in inappropriate conversations with James Charles on social media, the makeup artist said he was committed to “holding [himself] accountable for [his] own actions.”

He also said that he owes “a massive apology” to the teens over the “embarrassing” incident. The beauty ambassador then claims that he was unaware of his alleged victims’ real ages, claiming they told him they were 18.

The video platform’s announcement comes as another blow to James Charles, who has 25.5 million subscribers, just days after another company distanced itself. Over the weekend, cosmetics business Morphe announced the end of their partnership.
