Jada Pinkett Smith’s mom Adrienne Banfield-Norris is making it no secret that she felt rather frustrated when they hosted Olivia Jade Giannulli for a very special episode of Red Table Talk in which they talked about her college admissions scandal.

Her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli are both serving jail time for their role in the controversy. Both Olivia and her sister Isabella were admitted into the University of Southern California as rowing recruits despite the fact that they’ve never rowed in their lives.

During her appearance on Red Table Talk, Olivia said that while she understands that she doesn’t deserve pity, she still wants a chance to own her mistakes publicly.

“I felt so ashamed and embarrassed … although I didn’t really 100 percent understand what had just happened because there was a lot that, when I was applying, I was not fully aware of what was going on,” she told co-hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “When I got home [from spring break] I just felt so ashamed.”

However, Adrienne told Crooked Media’s Keep It podcast that there were some things about their conversation that just didn’t sit well with her.

She said, “I felt like as a 21-year-old young adult, that she needed to be way more aware of what’s going on in the world, and that was a little frustrating.”

“There’s just a lot of education she needs to do for herself,” the former nurse continued. “But I understand that that’s the world they’re in. Her life experiences have not put her in the space where she needs to be concerned about those kinds of things, really. I don’t really know how to address that because it is about how you’re raised and what you’re exposed to.”

While Olivia Jade Giannulli admitted that “on paper, it’s bad – really bad” she justified it by explaining that her parents, “came from a place of just, ‘I love my kids, I just want to help my kids — whatever is best for them — I worked my whole life to provide for my family.’ I think they thought it was normal.”

Adrienne saw it quite differently by calling Olivia Jade  the “epitome of white privilege.”
