Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James has been suspended for one game while Detroit Pistons second-year player Isaiah Stewart has landed a two-game suspension for their roles in an on-court altercation on Sunday night. This will be the first suspension of James’ career.

The league announced the suspensions Monday and James will a game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden while Stewart won’t be able to play the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Lakers and Pistons will meet again on Sunday in Los Angeles however.

LeBron James Receives 1-Game Suspension While Isaiah Stewart Lands A 2-Game Suspension For On-Court Altercation

According to the NBA, Stewart has been suspended for two games for “escalating an on-court altercation by repeatedly and aggressively pursuing … James in an unsportsmanlike manner.” While James is suspended “for recklessly hitting Stewart in the face and initiating an on-court altercation.”

In the game, James violently elbowed Stewart causing his eye and head to bleed during the third quarter of their matchup. Stewart was furious with the action and had to be held back by several teammates and coaches as he attempted to get to James.

James was escorted off the floor while Stewart had to be corraled and eventually made his way down the team’s tunnel.

Many viewers think it’s a joke that James is only facing a one-game suspension for his role in the altercation, and violently hitting Stewart in the face. Meanwhile, Stewart got two games for running through some folks as he tried to get to James. While we may never know if James intentionally threw that elbow (which is what it looks like), I guess the league has made their decision.

This should make their next matchup in Los Angeles all that more interesting. Will emotions be cooler or will we see another heated exchange on the floor?

What do you think? Do you think LeBron should have been suspended more games for that elbow? Let us know in the comments below.
