Prince William has spoken about his grief over losing his mother, Princess Diana, when she died 28 years ago this Sunday.

Prince William Became A Patron Of Child Bereavement UK On Mother’s Day In 2009

When Prince William was 15 years old, and Prince Harry was only 12 years old, their mother died in a car accident in Paris. Of course, it was a traumatic experience for both of Diana’s sons.

The Prince of Wales became a patron of Child Bereavement UK on Mother’s Day in 2009, which is a charity that Diana helped to launch.

He gave a speech for the charity and spoke about his personal experience with the loss of his mother and how Mother’s Day has always been hard for him ever since she’s been gone.

He highlighted the intense pain that is felt when one loses a family member or someone close to them. William also touched on the emptiness he felt because he could never say “Mummy” again.

William also expressed that he could wholeheartedly relate to the campaign. Throughout his young life, William has supported numerous causes that his mother supported.

He also gets out there and speaks with the people he serves, demonstrating that much like his mother, he also offers them the personal touch.

After his mother’s death, William often visited the homeless at Centrepoint, where he first went with Harry and Diana when he was a child. The visits left a lasting impression on William.

He became a patron of Centrepoint in 2005, marking his first patronage after completing college. As part of his lifelong commitment to help the homeless, the future King slept on the streets of London one night in 2009.

William’s Goal Is To Make Homelessness A “Rare, Brief, And Unrepeatable Experience”

William wanted to gain a sense of the affliction and get as close to the issue as possible. William also launched his own initiative called Homewards to tackle homelessness.

William creates and supports local long-term solutions to end homelessness. He wants to make homelessness a “rare, brief, and unrepeated experience.” His ultimate goal is to eliminate homelessness completely

William has partnered with several businesses and offers housing, training, and employment opportunities to help those in need.

He provides hope that homelessness is preventable. New homes will also be built on the Duchy of Cornwall land. The income from the Duchy supports William’s charitable efforts and projects.

Centrepoint will manage the homes. The Prince of Wales has often spoken of how his mother’s example inspired him to help the homeless.

William also champions other causes close to his late mum’s heart. He visited hospital wards for AIDS patients and has secretly volunteered behind the scenes. Like Diana, he’s a dedicated humanitarian.

Former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown praised William’s efforts, noting how beautifully he has followed in his mother’s footsteps.

“I think he’s changing people’s view of homelessness and what can be done about it.” Brown added, “Remember, his mother changed people’s views on landmines, and I think he’s changing people’s view that you’ve got to think of a homeless person as an individual who has potential.”

    He continued,

“And if given a proper chance, they can actually make something of their lives and not as someone to be discounted as a down and out.”
