Prince Andrew was obliged to step down from his royal duties in November 2019 because, as he put it, the Jeffrey Epstein scandal had caused a “major disruption” to the royal family.
Epstein Was “Brought Right Into The Heart Of The Royal Family”
Epstein was trafficking and sexually abusing underage girls. Andrew’s long-time association with him was a massive embarrassment to the royal family.
Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, claimed that she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York on three separate occasions when she was only seventeen years old.
Andrew and Giuffre settled out of court in February 2022. The prince reportedly paid Giuffre a hefty sum of $16 million. Andrew’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, gave over 2 million dollars to Giuffre’s sex trafficking charity.
Prince Andrew met Epstein in 1999 through Epstein’s girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell. Andrew reportedly flew with Epstein to his secluded island, Little Saint James, in the US Virgin Islands.
In June 2000, Andrew invited Epstein and Maxwell to the Queen’s “The Dance of Decades” party at Windsor Castle.
It was the most prominent royal party since Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip’s golden wedding anniversary in 1997. That night, the birthdays of the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince William were celebrated.
BBC reporter Emily Maitlis made a very frank observation that Epstein
“was brought right into the heart of the royal family at Andrew’s invitation.”
The party that night was an extravagant black-tie event, and the Queen was having a ball, dancing to the swing band.
Andrew Threw Maxwell A Birthday Party At Sandringham
Graham Dalby was in the band and shared his recollections of the night. Speaking about the Queen,
He remarked,
“She was on such great form. The dancing was actually being fronted and being led by the Queen.”
“I’ve never seen the Queen so animated,”
He continued.
“She had a really lovely smile on her face, and she was wearing a lovely powder blue dress and she looked absolutely stunning. She was just grabbing people and pulling them onto the dance floor.”
Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, attended after being disallowed from royal functions for three years.
The next day, Andrew was pictured at Ascot with Epstein and Maxwell. It isn’t clear whether they stayed at Buckingham Palace, but the guests were getting coaches back to the castle at 12:30 a.m., 1:30 a.m., and 2:30 a.m.
A month later, Andrew threw Maxwell a birthday party at Sandringham. Epstein was one of the guests. Andrew later stayed at Epstein’s homes in Palm Beach, Florida, and New York.
Six years later, Epstein and Maxwell were back at Windsor Castle for Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday, where they were pictured next to another known sex abuser, Harvey Weinstein.
Since Epstein wasn’t arrested until many years later, his presence at the Queen’s party or among the royals wasn’t controversial.
Epstein served 13 months in prison in 2005 for a sex crime and became a registered sex offender.
Epstein was charged again in 2019, and he died by an apparent suicide in his prison cell in August 2019. Andrew hasn’t been able to repair his reputation with the public or his family.
