Kate Middleton reportedly very much enjoyed decorating her and Prince William’s new 328-year-old, forever home at Forest Lodge.
Kate Decorated Her New Home In Classic Contemporary Style
Forest Lodge is a gorgeous eight-bedroom mansion in Windsor Great Park. It’s twice the size of their former home, Adelaide Cottage.
Their new home, Forest Lodge, dates back to the 1700s. It came into possession of the Crown Estate in 1829.
It’s also the home in which William and Kate will live when William claims the throne. The royal couple opted not to follow tradition and decided not to live in a castle when they became King and Queen.
According to the Daily Mail, the elegant and romantic home boasts “Venetian windows, marble fireplaces, and a barrel-vaulted hall ceiling.”
The estate also has a ballroom, tennis courts, and a large pond. One very notable pond, Cow Pond, is an ornamental lake.
The Princess of Wales has artfully decorated her home with décor from Marina Mill, which, the Daily Mail explains, is
“a company that specializes in hand designing screen printing fabrics, costing upwards of 100 pounds a metre.”
Marina Mill still creates everything by hand. Kate was also seen purchasing a 24-seater dining table, which implies that the future Queen has every intention of hosting lavish dinner parties at Royal Lodge.
Kate has decorated their new abode in a “classic contemporary style.” The home has also undergone several renovations, including new doors, windows, ceilings, and floors.
Kate And William Hung Priceless Works Of Art At Forest Lodge
William and Kate also personally funded their move to avoid straining taxpayers’ pockets. An avid art lover, Kate has also hung priceless works to give the home a museum-like feel.
Both Kate and William love their paintings and were keen to put them on display. The Princess has a strong appreciation of creative endeavors. Kate was an art history major at the University of St. Andrews.
The Victoria and Albert Museum East Storehouse in London even has a mini display called Makers and Creators, curated by Princess Kate. The exhibit shows how historical objects can inspire creativity today.
Kate’s love of British décor also includes walnut bookshelves, a Persian rug from the Royal Collection, and several furnishings from high-end British brands.
The Princess is also a huge fan of interior designer Ben Pentreath, whose style is classic British, but decidedly unstuffy.
Kate and William also considered their virtual appointments as they wanted to set up the perfect backdrop and create the ideal space for their home offices.
In addition to their recent move into their new home, Prince William is preparing his solo trip to Brazil for the upcoming Earthshot Prize Awards.
A Fresh New Chapter For The Wales Family
The Earthshot Prize Awards are significant to William, as they reflect his steadfast commitment to the environment and to finding innovative solutions to help save the planet.
While William is off in Brazil for the Earthshot Awards, Kate will remain focused on helping their children adjust to the new move.
The move is a welcome change for William, Kate, and the kids, as Adelaide Cottage only serves to remind them of sad events like the passing of the Queen, their grandfather, King Charles’s cancer, and Kate’s own cancer battle. The Wales family is excited about the move.
One source told The Sun, ahead of William and Kate’s move to Forest Lodge,
“Windsor has become their home.”
They continued,
“However, over the last few years, while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some very difficult times.”
They added,
“Moving gives them an opportunity to for a fresh start and a new chapter, an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.”
