Some are calling her a hero, others are trying to figure out the real truth of what is going on. There’s a new report that says Marina Ovsyannikova has refused to retract her statement against Russia’s war on Ukraine in court.

Here’s The Truth About Russian Television War Protester Marina Ovsyannikova

According to new reports, a Russian court has fined Marina Ovsyannikova 30,000 roubles ($280) for violating protest laws after she broke onto a live news broadcast on Channel One in an extraordinary demonstration against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

She was fined not for breaking onto the Channel One set but for a video statement she made before the protest in which she said she was “ashamed” of having worked at Channel One and spreading “Kremlin propaganda.”

Soon after she was arrested, Ovsyannikova briefly spoke to journalists after her court appearance, thanking people for their support and saying that she had been subjected to a long interrogation without legal help.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin on Tuesday described Ovsyannikova’s actions as “hooliganism,” a criminal offense in Russia. Russian state news agency Tass reported that law enforcement officials had begun a preliminary investigation into the “public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces.”

If that weren’t enough, French President Emmanuel Macron even offered protection for Ovsyannikova and said that he would call Vladimir Putin himself about the matter.

“France strongly condemns any imprisonment of a journalist as well as any manipulation and obviously we are going to launch diplomatic steps aimed at offering protection either at the embassy or an asylum protection to your colleague,” Macron told reporters at a Ukrainian refugee center in France.
