Grey’s Anatomy has confirmed that Ellen Pompeo’s character Meredith Grey will leave the show next February. The actress previously said she would be leaving the drama in its 19th season, with a hint that Meredith may leave to go to Boston to work with Avery Jackson (Jesse Williams) on Alzheimer’s research. Here’s what you need to know.
The medical drama centers around the character Grey, an aspiring surgeon and daughter of one of Seattle Grace Hospital’s best surgeons, Dr Ellis Grey. Throughout the nineteen series of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith goes through professional and personal challenges along with fellow surgeons at the hospital.

Pompeo also serves as an executive producer on the longest-running primetime medical drama on television. The farewell episode will air on Thursday, February 23, 2023, when the series returns from its winter break. Back in March 2021, it was reported that Ellen and Angelina Jolie had gone out together. According to ET Online, Angelina and Ellen met up at the upscale Italian restaurant E Baldi. Angelina had on a white dress while Ellen had on an all-black ensemble. Both women wore face masks.
The outing came just a few days after Ellen appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, where she admitted that she’s still trying to figure out her future on Grey’s Anatomy. “I can’t say. We honestly have not decided,” Pompeo said at the time, when asked if the show will continue after its 17th season, which is the last year of her contract. “We’re really trying to figure it out right now. What story do we tell? To end a show this iconic, how do we do it?”
