On Tuesday, 10th January 2022, Golden Globes host Jerrod Carmichael made it clear that Tom Cruise was not welcome at the event by delivering some cutting remarks.
Golden Globes Host Jerrod Carmichael Humiliates Tom Cruise By Demanding That His Golden Globes Be Exchanged For The Return Of Scientology Leader David Miscavige’s Missing Wife
Just before introducing two of Tom Cruise’s co-stars in Top Gun: Maverick, 35-year-old Carmichael was seen holding three Golden Globe trophies. In 2021, Cruise gave back his three awards as a demonstration of his dissatisfaction with the scarcity of black Golden Globe voters at the event.
And yet, Jerrod decided to troll Cruise in light of his connections to the controversial Scientology movement. In his comments, he said: “Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned.
“I’m just the host… but I have a pitch. I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige.’ Cruise did not attend the ceremony.”
It has been 15 years since the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, Shelly, has had any public appearance. It’s not certain if Carmichael was implying that Cruise might be aware of Shelly’s location. In 2013, Scientology deserter Leah Remini reported a missing person report to the Los Angeles Police Department concerning Shelly.
The department was later confident that the member of the movement was okay. With that being said, Leah praised Jerrod for speaking out on this matter. Her following comments confirmed as much: “WHERE IS SHELLY????’ Thank you, Jerrod Carmichael.”
The response on social media was much the same. Large numbers of people began to express their condemnation towards Cruise in light of his connections to Scientology. One person wrote: “Brilliant joke.
“Cruise, the poster boy of one of the most despicable sects on the planet, deserves nothing less than to be ridiculed on a daily basis.” It is fair to say that this was not Cruise’s finest moment.
