‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Ryan Paevy recently dished to Soap Opera Digest about the real reason he came back to GH.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Paevy Returned to Play Cassius Faison
Paevy returned to play Cassius Faison, not his former role of Nathan West. Cassius is Nathan’s twin brother, and from the way Paevy describes him, he isn’t exactly evil or good; he’s kind of in the grey area.
While fans had more than an inkling that this man wasn’t really Nathan, Paevy was tasked with playing it off as Nathan, which fooled many viewers.
After all, he looks like Nathan and talks like Nathan, but he’s Cassius. Paevy would ask,
“Do you want me to pepper a little bit of Cassius here?”
“The answer was always, No, just be Nathan.”
SOD reported,
“It was important to the powers that be that Paevy’s performance not be a dead giveaway about the imposter in the mix.”
However, many fans had already noticed some strange stuff. Like, Nathan is an expert baseball player. When Nathan was with James West (Gary James Fuller), he hesitated even to pick up the bat.
Then, he flubbed his hit. That’s so unlike Nathan. He was the best baseball player on the PCPD’s team. It’s something James would have picked up on had he known his father before Cassius showed up.
Plus, he mishandled evidence, which Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) caught, but nothing much came of it.
The biggest hint was that he wasn’t really Nathan. He was clearly no longer in love with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). The old Nathan would have moved heaven and earth to be with his true love.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: “Nathan” Didn’t Even Visit Maxie While She Was In a Coma
Not to mention, he would never have hooked up with Maxie’s BFF, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Breuning). He didn’t even care enough to see Maxie while she was still in a coma.
Paevy explained that part of Cassius’s dark streak stems from growing up without a family, unlike Nathan.
“I feel like Cassius has a kind of little brother syndrome. He did not grow up in a warm and loving family. He’s never really been loved or appreciated or seen anything like that.”
At first, Cassius’s stealing Nathan’s identity was simply a means to an end. Paevy pointed out,
“It’s eminently useful to be somebody that everybody loves. He’s a cop. He has access. His motivation, initially, was utility.”
Paevy added,
“Being someone that’s known and loved by a community, that’s really useful as if you’re a nefarious guy, if you’re trying to do stuff and get away with it.”
He said,
“There are all kinds of utility to being Nathan, to hiding in plain sight as a detective. But there are some other perks that go along with it. What I think he didn’t foresee was how nice it was to be liked, you know?”
Paevy knows that Cassius cares about Lulu and James. He explained,
“I think that’s a great point of vulnerability for Cassius, because he never had to worry about that before. Now, there are people that he cares about, and he only gets to keep them if the secret holds.”
