‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers say that it looks like the drama off screen is just as juicy as the drama on screen these days. Apparently, fans are slamming Maurice Benard for being a “phony” and turning his back on his old pal and co-star, Steve Burton. As many fans know, Steve was given the pink slip back in 2021 when he refused to comply with the ABC network’s vaccine mandate. Here’s what you need to know.
For some own known reason, Maurice, who is best known for his role as Sonny Corinthos on the hit ABC soap, decided to reply to a disgruntled fan who called him out for his apparent treatment of Steve. Referencing the passing of General Hospital star Sonya Eddy, the Twitter follower wrote, “Stop Maurice, you are a phony. You turned against SB too because of the vaccine mandates. Keep taking those boosters and you’ll end up like Sonya E.”

It didn’t take Maurice very long to reply with, “So you want me dead? Is that what you’re saying?” Needless to say, other fans sure chimed in with, “That person is absolutely disgusting. I’m still shocked at how heartless people can be. I’m gutted about Sonya. How she can make that comment when GH cast and crew, fans and loved ones are grieving is beyond heartless. Keep being your sweet self Maurice!!” along with, “That is the most horrendous thing I have seen on twitter in awhile. Can u please have respect for the poor woman who just died and even though you may not agree on boosters let’s show some kindness this time of year.”
Another fan wrote, “Whatever your misguided and conspiracy-laden political beliefs are, this tweet was completely tone-deaf and inappropriate. You have NO idea why Sonya died and speculating about vaccines killing her is unbelievably insensitive and cruel. Keep your nastiness to yourself.”
