If only Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) had kept searching- he may have found that he and Monica (Courteney Cox) were related after all!
In the season seven two-part finale of the smash hit sitcom, Friends- The One with Monica and Chandler’s Wedding- Chandler developed a serious case of cold feet and disappeared.
When Ross (David Schwimmer) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) finally tracked him down in his work office, Chandler claimed he was using the internet to try and prove he and Monica were related.
‘Friends Reunion’: Matthew Perry and Courtney Cox are Related!
In a case of life imitating art, researchers at MyHeritage discovered the actors, Perry and Cox do share a lineage! According to the MyHeritage genealogists, the two stars are very distant cousins.
Going back around 500 years a gentleman by the name of William Osbern Haskell III wed a lady named Ellen. Fifteen years after The Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock, Ellen Haskell brought her two sons, Roger and William to the U.S.A.
From there, Roger’s family tree ended up including John Bennett Perry who had a son named Matthew. This Matthew kid ended up getting himself a decent gig on a pretty popular TV show.
Not to be outdone, William’s family tree spread its branches down to Courteney Copeland, who named her daughter after herself. After “Dancing in the Dark” with Bruce Springsteen, Courteney junior landed the same gig as Matthew. The two actors then ended up being married on the show!
‘Friends Reunion’: Kissing Cousins!
“We went into this line very deeply — we checked every name,” head of research at MyHeritage, Roi Mandel said. “We found a lot of records that support it, and we have confidence that they are related.”
Unfortunately this information only came to light a few days ago and didn’t make it into the Friends reunion- The One Where They Get Back Together which just dropped on HBO Max. We’re sure , though, that Matthew and Courteney couldn’t BE more excited by the revelation.
