Fans have been left outraged by the news that they will not be able to listen to Kanye West’s new album ‘Donda 2’ unless they do so on his own platform, Stem Player.

Kanye’s move is a bold one, as it seeks to challenge the major players of Spotify and Apple Music. While he could be praised for having the courage to make such a bold move, the very fact of the matter is that it has divided the fan base.

This is on the grounds that it would set fans back a reported $200 to do such a thing, as they would have to buy a stem device. Naturally, such a high price did not go down very well.

One person wrote: “Does it look like I’m going to buy a $200 Stem Player for an album?” while another person stated: “Bruh I’m paying for Spotify Premium to listen to your music, don’t do this to me.”

Despite the negative criticism coming the rappers way, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, Kanye revealed that this move was an attempt to give more control back to musicians, so that they could earn more money in the process.

Secondly, given that Kanye has set the trend of doing this, It may encourage other artists who feel they are not being compensated enough for their work to do the same, which at the very least from a financial point of view, is a good thing for the artists.

In a post to his fans on Instagram, Kanye urged his fans to back him. He stated: “Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player. Not on Apple Amazon Spotify or YouTube.

“Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own. Go to stemplayer.com now to order.”

Not many fans will pay up that amount of money, but for the ones that do, they certainly have a rare item on their hands indeed.
