The company that owns Facebook and Instagram, Meta, has lifted Donald Trump‘s ban, allowing him to return to social media, but there are some restrictions. The accounts will be restored, Meta announced on Wednesday, adding that it thinks users should be able to hear what politicians have to say in order to make informed decisions.

Meta says, “The suspension was an extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances. The normal state of affairs is that the public should be able to hear from a former President of the United States, and a declared candidate for that office again, on our platforms.”

However, the conditions are accompanied by warnings “But that does not mean there are no limits to what people can say on our platform. When there is a clear risk of real-world harm – a deliberately high bar for Meta to intervene in public discourse – we act.” As you may know, a number of social media platforms banned Trump in January 2021 after it was determined he had used them to incite the uprising on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Trump was also banned from Pinterest, Shopify, Twitch, Snapchat, Reddit, and TikTok. Just in recent history though, Twitter, after new owner Elon Musk took over decided to lift the Twitter ban on Trump. However, Trump has not tweeted since he was suspended and has been opting to use Truth social.

While he may be allowed back on Facebook and Instagram, we doubt he will actually use the platforms. He seems to have made a statement with Twitter, even though it’s under new ownership and he likes to be stubborn. I don’t think he’ll give Zuckerberg and Meta the satisfaction of using their sites.

What do you think? Are you glad that Trump is being let back on these social media platforms or do you believe that he should remain banned indefinitely? Let us know in the comments below.
