Doctor Who Spoilers: reveal a new season began along with the new decade. On January 1st, 2020, the first of a two-parter aired. It was followed on Sunday, January 5th, by the second part. We’ll be honest. We weren’t fans of Jodie Whittaker’s first season. We explained why here. But, new writer/show runner Chris Chibnall had a surprise in store. Here’s what you need to know.

    Doctor Who spoilers: The story

As we mentioned in the other article linked above, the cast didn’t change much. We still have the same three companions and they’re still traveling with 13. But, this season finds them all by themselves when a strange incident happens. Each companion is met outside a different location by a limo and forced to go along. Eventually, a limo comes for The Doctor as well. She displays the same spunk and great dialogue from last season as she struggles to save herself and her companions from an accident. Their limo goes insane and nearly kills them.

    Doctor Who spoilers: Reveal

It turns out this was an innocent and not so innocent mistake. The cars will sent by MI6, who needs The Doctor’s help. It seems agents are disappearing mysteriously, and they have one who appears comatose, but isn’t. It’s a weird, complicated thing typical of the sci-fi series. We loved watching this bunch of time travelers react to all the twists and turns of the episode. The writing was far more engaging, less preachy, and Doctor Who-like than last time. They do seem to have a theme of featuring historical women, but it was much more subtle in this two-parter. But there was one big surprise in store…

    Doctor Who spoilers: The return

One thing about this show, especially during the previous show runner’s tenure is the villains. Sometimes, they’re just as interesting and liked as the Doctor. One of those people was the Master. Last time we saw the character, he was a female who called herself Missy (Michelle Gomez). She was a fun, awesome version that is easily our favorite of the modern Masters. In a shocking twist, the “O” (Sacha Dhawan) the Doctor was working the missing agents case with turns out to be her old nemesis. This version of the Master continues the evil, kind of crazy vibe as the other two of the modern era. But, there may be way more to this than we think.

    Doctor Who spoilers: Motives

It seems this villain might be motivated by a better cause. In the second episode, we learn he destroyed Gallifrey, the Time Lord’s home world. He tells the Doctor everything she knows is a lie. And the Council was lying about the Timeless Child. It’s a creepy moment that brings us back to where the travels all began. We’re looking forward to seeing where this twist leads.
