The award’s season is officially underway, and one of the biggest nights for television in the United Kingdom released their nominations for the big prices yesterday. The winners will be announced during the show on the 28th January, and it will be presented by Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams.
There are 15 awards up for grabs at the big ceremony, while there will also be a host of special occurrences due to the fact that the awards ceremony will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. All of the biggest names in soap and television will be in attendance, but only a lucky few will be taking home the awards.
Soap Stars Locked In Battle
All the soaps will be going head to head in the best serial drama category. Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks will be hoping to take the award. Last year’s winner was Emmerdale, but it is expected that Coronation Street could be about to take the crown after a big year of stories.
The biggest of which centred around Katie McGlynn’s portrayal as Sinead Tinker. Sinead heartbreakingly lost her battle with cancer in scenes that were too much to bear for some viewers. She is up for the award for best Serial Drama Performance. However, she will face stern competition from Danny Miller, Danny Dyer and Gregory Finnegan. Corrie are also represented in the best newcomer category with Peter Ash nominated for his portrayal of Paul Foreman. He will be hoping to fight off competition from Max Bowden, Imran Adams and Jurell Carter to win the award.
High-Quality Drama Categories
While the soap’s battle it out for the serial drama accolades, the biggest battle of the night could come in the Drama category. Peaky Blinders won the award in 2019, and they are back to defend their crown after another enthralling season last year. However, they will face stern competition from Killing Eve and Line of Duty. The latter of which was one of the most-watched dramas in the whole of last year.
Killing Eve start Jodie Comer and the Peaky Blinder’s ring leader Cillian Murphy will also do battle in the Best Drama Performance category. They are joined in the running for that award by Suranne Jones for her performance in Gentleman Jack, and Idris Elba for his excellent work in Luther. There are a host of other awards up for grabs such as reality show, television presenter and comedy programme. Stay tuned for the winners at the end of January.
