‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers reveal that Cherie Jimenez, who plays Gabi Hernandez, recently opened up on Slasher Scotty’s YouTube channel.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Soap Fans Sometimes Cross the Line
Cherie discussed her experience on DOOL and how stepping into another actor’s shoes to play an already well-established role on a soap is very challenging and can sometimes be met with some reluctance and criticism.
Soap fans can cross the line, often more than any other medium or form of entertainment. We invite these characters into our homes five days a week. Viewers know and care about these characters and sometimes see them as their own family.

So, when there are unexpected changes, it can trigger upset among the audience. Whether it’s an actor who is a very convincing villain or a recast of a beloved actor, the soap opera medium is so much unlike anything else.
Cherie Jimenez, who stepped into the role of Gabi in June 2024, took over the part from Camilla Banus, who had a very strong, supportive, and vocal fanbase.
Jimenez is an incredible, beautiful actress who has done an impressive job making the role her own. However, that didn’t stop fans from attacking her on social media.
Jimenez said it wasn’t simply negative comments, but people were actively reaching out and contacting her directly to bully her, which was very hurtful.

“Bullying is not okay in any form. And I choose to change the narrative and what I acknowledge. My life is very full. I’m blessed. I’m so thankful.”

Cherie also praised Camilla’s work as Gabi,
“Camilla played this role for 13 years. This is her baby. She brought a lot of who she is into this character. The biggest thing is that I want to do justice and remain in the same realm of who Gabi Hernandez is, but also, I am my own person. And so, at the end of the day, I’m going to bring to it parts of who I am as well.”
Jimenez spoke on Slasher Scotty and talked about the recast of her on-screen cousin, Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon). Calderon was offered a role on Brilliant Minds and opted to exit DOOL. So, there will soon be a big change to the Hernandez family.

She offered praise to the recast but was careful not to reveal who the new actor is,
“The recast is wonderful. Because I’m a recast, there’s a camaraderie, and there’s also something really beautiful about a new recast coming in and welcoming them and also like honoring that this is their experience.”

Jimenez continued, “It’s tough because of the expectations set by the previous actor, and at the end of the day, the new actor cannot be the previous actor. There’s just no way. Like, I get it. People want you to do what they did, but that’s not authentic.”
“Al leaving, of course, is heartbreaking. We cried hysterically in my room for about an hour while holding each other and telling each other how much we love each otherand how grateful we are for Days.”

According to Jimenez, Calderon tried to balance DOOL and Brilliant Minds, but it ultimately didn’t work out because Brilliant Minds shoots in Canada.
Interestingly, Jimenez said that she would love to meet her predecessor, Camilla Banus, at some point,
“We could take a picture and be like, ‘Hey guys, all right, enough is enough.”
Additionally, there were rumors that Banus was returning to reclaim the role of Gabi, which Jimenez quickly shut down. The show has no plans to rehire Camilla Banus. Cherie is there to stay. She said the speculation feeds drama but doesn’t reflect the truth.
Jimenz said,
“You’re going to have to drag me out of there. I’m not going anywhere. I love this role. Every day I grow. I become a better actor.”
