Dave Chapelle has continued to fire back at his critics when he doubled down on his beliefs following a return visit to his high school, despite being heckled.
Dave Chapelle Heckled On His High School Return-‘I’m Better Than All Of You’
The comedian’s sketch show entitled ‘The Closer’ has continued to divide the critics with a certain subset of people believing that his jokes were deemed to be offending members of the LGBTQ community.
Therefore, Dave ended up being labelled transphobic. Although a certain amount of time has passed since then, it looks as though people have not forgotten.
According to reports, Dave made a visit to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The turnout was pretty high, with over 500 students attending. As such, there were a lot of people who wanted to hear what Dave was going to say.
And as expected, they did not let things go quietly. Members of the transgender movement took it upon themselves to call out the comedian.
One person had reportedly said the following: “I’m 16, and I think you’re childish. You handled it like a child.” Dave was not going to let this impact him and made sure that he was ready to fight back.
In his defence, the comedian has stated that he would be willing to meet members of the transgender community in order to address their concerns.
However, this should be done in a way that encourages dialogue as opposed to a form of heckling, which is what this visit turned out to be.
In response, Dave stated: “With all due respect, I don’t believe you could make one of the decisions I have to make on a given day.
“I’m better than every instrumentalist, artist, no matter what art you do in this school, right now, I’m better than all of you.”
Those comments did not help, given that most of the questions the audience asked were focusing on the negative parts of Dave’s recent headlines.
That is not to say that he did not have supporters in the crowd, but it would have taken a brave person to speak up. It will be some time before Dave is fully accepted back into the public arena.
