In his first public statement since making divisive comments on “Monday Night Football,” Troy Aikman refers to his remarks as “dumb.” Aikman walked back on his comments during an interview on the radio, “My comments were dumb, just shouldn’t have made them. Just dumb remarks on my part.”

The former Cowboys quarterback expressed his displeasure with the NFL’s implementation of the roughing the passer penalty during Monday night’s Raiders-Chiefs game. Aikman mocked some of the roughing the passer calls saying, “My hope is the competition committee looks at this in the next set of meetings, and, you know, we take the dresses off.”

Since then, Aikman has come under fire amid claims that he is sexist and misogynistic. This season, the roughing penalty has drawn a lot of attention, particularly in light of Tua Tagovailoa’s injuries and the call made against Tom Brady by the Falcons.

Dungy wrote, “On Sunday we were told that “unnecessarily throwing the quarterback to the ground” was a penalty. On Monday it wasn’t. NFL officiating office please tell us which interpretation is correct??” on Twitter.

In this ridiculously, over sensitive time, what he said is not particularly bad, but of course, it was taken with aggression and hostility. I don’t think Aikman should have apologized for his quote, but he likely just wants to keep his job. Even if people were truly offended, is it really that big of a deal? I hear things I don’t agree with all the time but I’m not gunning for someone’s job. It’s so bizarre to me.

I have to agree with his comments as the penalties have been getting ridiculous and overused. They need to step it up and let the players play!

What do you think? Should Troy Aikman have apologized for his comments or do you think he caved so he could keep his job? Let us know in the comments below.
