Tony Rock, the brother of Chris Rock, has refused to accept Will Smith’s apology in the aftermath of his slap-gate scandal.

Will, for his part, uncharacteristically decided to slap the comedian after he became offended by his joke towards Jada Pinkett Smith. Subsequently, the actor received mass condemnation on social media, while Chris was praised for keeping his cool.
Although Will has apologised in the aftermath, not everybody has been convinced by it. And none more so than Tony himself. When asked if he accepted the apology, Tony said: “No.” This is entirely understandable for the following reasons.
First of all, Tony had to watch his brother being subjected to violence in front of the whole world for simply doing his job. And given that Tony is also a comedian, he fully understands that his brother meant no malice from his joke.
Secondly, in any event, there was a mass feeling on social media that Will’s apology was designed to save face rather than it being sincere. This is particularly true since the actor had walked away with an Oscar for best actor, which has most likely now been tarnished as a result of this incident.
The response on social media was much the same. A significant proportion of people agreed with what Tony had to say, as Will had not done enough. So much so that some people were of the view that Will should have voluntarily given up his Oscar to show that he had remorse.
One fan wrote: “This the sh*t I’m speaking of. A joke shouldn’t reach this level. Same way a husband defend his wife, a brother can defend his brother.”
Tony’s grievances are plain for all to see, but this scandal may inadvertently lead to more publicity for him and his brother which the pair will no doubt be able to capitalise on.
While that is not the most important thing in relation to this incident, the duo will not be complaining too much if they do get more exposure from this. So there you have it folks. What did you think about all this?
