CBS ‘The Young and The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that Sharon Newman, played most recently by Sharon Case, has been a pivotal character in the show since 1994. She’s best known for being the on-again, off-again love interest of Nick Newman, and her character often spins from “damsel in distress” to “dramatic and draining”. Regardless, Sharon has been an incredibly important character, and she is no stranger to drama.

Sharon was first introduced to the show in 1994 as the poor girl from the other side of Genoa. She quickly fell into the arms of single bachelor, Nick Newman before the two married and welcomed their son, Noah. Shortly after the blissful wedding, Sharon opened up about her daughter, Cassie, who she had with an ex-boyfriend and gave up due to financial stressors. Despite the wild onslaught of drama, including the murder of ex-boyfriend, Frank, Nick and Sharon finally won custody over Cassie and settled into their family of four.

Infidelity struck between the pair and Cassie was in a fatal car wreck, which ultimately pushed Nick into the seductive arms of Phyllis Summers, which officially ended the 11-year marriage between Nick and Sharon. Sharon’s broken heart didn’t last long, as she married her second husband, Jack Abbott. However, Sharon and Nick always found their way back into each other’s arms and eventually conceived their daughter, Faith. If there’s anything that ‘Young and The Restless’ fans can count on, it’s that Sharon and Nick will, to some degree, have a jaded romance that swells in and out between other relationships.

In 2011, Sharon was wrongly arrested for the murder Skye Newman, Adam’s ex-wife. She was sentenced to life, imprisoned, and eventually the truth came out and she was released back into Genoa, and the romantic love triangle of her previous life. Sharon also suffers from mental health issues, such as impulse control problems which has added even more depth to her character. Most recently, Sharon has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis has fallen hard on Genoa, but particularly on Sharon herself. Now, her character is about to undergo chemotherapy to try to cure her. She was given a positive prognosis, however, in Genoa city, nobody can get too comfortable.

Most recently, Sharon was caught dreaming about her late daughter, Cassie, who was asking Sharon to come with her – presumably to pass to the spirit world with Cassie. Sharon insisted that she wasn’t ready, and the scene ended positively. However, it poses a question: Was Cassie’s apparition a figment of Sharon’s imagination, or was it foreshadowing Sharon’s untimely fate. Do you think Sharon will overcome her cancer diagnosis and continue to be Genoa’s damsel in distress, or has the character run her course?
